Storage Format

The volume data provided is stored in the XML Parallel vtkUnstructuredGrid format, e.g, filename.pvtu [‌1]. The Parallel data format does not actually contain any data but references other serial files (Serial vtkUnstructuredGrid) containing the data for each grid partition used for the computation, e.g., filename_partition_number.vtu. Both the .pvtu (or any .vtu) file can be easily read through the open-source Paraview software, a multi-platform application for data analysis and visualization [‌2]. Datasets are delivered as compressed file (.tar.gz).

Statistical data format

The dataset consists of a set of .pvtu files, possibly grouping similar statistics:

averaged_fields.pvtu:
- averaged velocity, ${\overline {u}}_{i}/u_{ref}$
- averaged pressure, ${\overline {p}}/p_{ref}$
- averaged density, ${\overline {\rho }}/\rho _{ref}$
- averaged temperature, ${\overline {T}}/T_{ref}$
Reynolds_stress.pvtu: all the 6 components of the Reynolds stress tensor, $R_{ij}/(\rho _{ref}u_{ref}^{2})$
Favre_triple_velocity_correlation.pvtu: all the 10 components of the triple velocity correlation, ${\overline {\rho u''_{i}u''_{j}u''_{k}}}/(\rho _{ref}u_{ref}^{3})$
pressure_velocity_correlation.pvtu: the 3 components of the pressure-velocity correlations, $p'u''_{i}/(p_{ref}u_{ref})$
scales.pvtu:
- Taylor microscale, $\eta _{T}/H$
- Kolmogorov length scale, $\eta _{K}/H$
- Kolmogorov time scales, $\tau _{K}u_{ref}/H$

where $i$ and $j$ range between 1 and 3 and $u_{1}$ , $u_{2}$ , $u_{3}$ are alias of $u$ , $v$ , $w$ .
