Axisymmetric drop impact dynamics on a wall film of the same liquid
Data Quality and Accuracy of Measurements
For every set of parameters, experiments are repeated at least five times to minimize the effect of random errors. The impact parameters are verified in a post processing step, showing that the drop diameter of 1.5 mm is matched with a deviation of less than the resolution of the camera (31 μm). Also the target velocity is set precisely to 1.00 m/s, 1.99 m/s and 3.02 m/s with a relative error of less than ±1%. Due to the well-adjusted impact parameters, the formation of the corona and hence the temporal development of its geometrical dimensions show great repeatability. The mean relative standard deviation of the parameters dCB, dCT and hC is less than 0.45%, 1.41% and 2.23%, respectively. For the sake of clarity, average values of each data set are given without indicating the aforementioned standard deviation.
